Peat is an organic substance formed under certain conditions of water-mineral nutrition in the marshland. Peat deposits are divided into three types: top, lowland and transitional.
Top peat is characterised by a light brown colour, a low degree of decomposition and a high content of undecomposed fibres. Due to its agrochemical and physical properties, top peat is recognised worldwide as an ideal basis for growing a variety of plants.
Transitional peat is, most often, a thin layer between top and lowland peat, but sometimes there can be found large layers consisting entirely of transitional peat. As a rule, it is used to prepare different types of compost.
Lowland peat is characterised by dark colour, a high degree of decomposition, the absence of fibres and low water-retaining ability. The structure of lowland peat is similar to ordinary soil, with the bulk density of lowland peat being quite high in comparison with the top type.
Agroperlite is a mined natural substance, namely an igneous volcanic derivative, rich in many chemical elements which significantly improves the soil quality. A distinctive feature of perlite is the presence of 2 to 5 percent of bound water molecules in it.
